Contemporary musical theater I've watched o'er the past couple of years (e.g.
Next to Normal,
Spring Awakening,
Working) pales in comparison to the classics of yore. Case in point: Les Miserables.
Whence I attended
Les Miserables two years prior in Houston, I was entertained through and through. Watching the LA production a few weeks past, however, was a mind and emotional transport into the core of the beautiful time-honored French tale about the human spirit, thanks to confoundingly talented cast, breath-stealing set design, and heartstring-wrenching musical score. 'Twas a veritably enthralling production awash in themes of mercy, redemption, restoration, and lovely love that further deepen my longtime love for musical theater.
'Twas a wondrous eveningtide in La La Land. Do make haste to catch
Les Mis at the Ahmanson before it meanders outta town!
